Castries, Saint Lucia: Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre and Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire extended warm wishes and greetings on the occasion of International Women’s Day and pledged to work to close the gender gap. They wished the women on March 8, when international women’s day is celebrated across the globe.
Ernest Hilaire took to Facebook and wrote a heartfelt appreciation note for the women and their contribution to society. He cited that despite facing massive challenges in her life, women have always stood tall against all odds and evolved in a progressive way.
He pledged to continue the fight for all women and enhance the chances for the women of his country. While pouring wishes on occasion, Ernest Hilaire added, “On the occasion of International Women’s Day, I do wish all women in Castries South and the entire country a wonderful day.”
He took the opportunity to salute and honour women around the world and noted,”I pledge to continue the fight for all women and to closing the gender gap.”
Hailing the women, Ernest Hilaire added,” Some us, because of our upbringing, know the strength of a woman. We have lived it, protected by it and succeeded because of it. Every day I am reminded of the struggles of women and witness the resilience to overcome the challenges that they face.”
While calling women an inspiration for him, he appreciated them and stated that women who work with him should be lauded for their contribution. “I am inspired by so many women who work with me and support me. Let us continue to fight for all, building a better society,” said the deputy prime minister.
While extending warm wishes, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre, stated that the world had celebrated International Women’s Day under the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” to recognise that the nexus between women and their inclusion in technology can result in a more inclusive and creative-solution oriented society.
He added that access to laptops/smart devices and internet connectivity has been a focus of my administration as this allows our students, especially the girls, to participate in “transformative technology and digital education.”
“We have accomplished much in this sphere and will continue the work to advance and protect our women in the digital space. Happy International Women’s Day, “said the prime minister.
