Castries, Saint Lucia: Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre is all set to attend a meeting of the Regional Security System [RSS] Council of Ministers in Grenada from Wednesday, March 22. 

The meeting will feature a productive discussion and works as the perfect platform for the leaders to share and exchange their ideas on various matters of concern. The meeting will also discuss the best practices for enhancing security measures in the Caribbean region. 

The government of Saint Lucia took to Facebook and stated, “Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre is in Grenada for the Regional Security System Council of Ministers meeting.” 

There will be a significant discussion on various regional matters, and the heads of the state will outline ways to work together to address common challenges such as illegal arms trade, drug trafficking, and intelligence gathering. 

Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre, will also discuss the role of the country and reaffirm its commitment to strengthening their relations and partnerships with the neighbouring countries. He will also outline ways to promote peace and stability in the Caribbean region. 

RSS troops are in Saint Lucia currently for three weeks in the first instance with an aim to arrest the proliferation of gang-related gun violence, particularly in the town of Vieux Fort. 

Earlier, the government of Saint Lucia, under the leadership of PM Philip J Pierre, introduced and passed the “Suppression of Escalated Crime [Police Powers] Act” to address crime in designated areas.

The Prime Minister’s attendance at this meeting is part of a broader effort by Saint Lucia to strengthen relationships with neighbouring countries and promote regional stability, especially as it grapples with the illegal arms trade. Shawn Edward will act as the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia until Friday, March 24. 

On March 22, 2023, PM Philip J Pierre also extended condolences to Superintendent Burton Deterville and added, “Yesterday, Tuesday, March 21, we laid to rest Superintendent Burton Deterville. I will miss our friendship. I pray that the Lord provides comfort to his family, friends and members of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.”
