PM Mottley held telephonic talk with China’s President regarding COVID vaccines

The Prime Minister of Barbados Caribbean island - Mia Amor Mottley, held a telephonic conversation with the President of the People's Republic of China - Xi Jinping.

Barbados: The Prime Minister of Barbados Caribbean island – Mia Amor Mottley, held a telephonic conversation with the President of the People’s Republic of China – Xi Jinping.

The Prime Minister reiterated her congratulations on the centenary of the Chinese Communist Party and registered the most profound appreciation for the support China provided to the Caribbean island since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the statement, PM Mottley further noted that China had provided PPE and supplies to assist Barbados in the tough times of the pandemic efforts.

“We recently have received a total of 30,000 Sinopharm vaccines, which came at a critical time to support and protect Barbadians. I also appreciated President Xi for his ongoing action to assure that COVID-19 vaccines become globally available,” the prime minister added.

The Prime Minister of the Caribbean island has stated that she supported the call for a global forum regarding the novel coronavirus vaccines and to establish an international clearinghouse that would be providing fairness to everyone.

PM Mottley further informed that during her telephonic conversation with China’s President, she had also stressed that Barbados only assists a science-based approach with respect to the determining the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite this, Both the heads also discussed about the Belt and Road Initiative of China.

“Barbados has already been benefited from China’s cooperation in our infrastructural development needs, and consequences of this can be seen across the Barbados,” PM Mottley stated.

PM Mottley and China’s President also had talks about assisting Barbados’ economy in order to grow its economy and recover from the economic crisis that has come with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Caribbean islands’ Prime Minister further informed that both the heads have also reviewed the case for 5G. This telephonic call was a demonstration of the commitment to strengthening relations with China.

In addition, Xi Jinping pointed out that Barbados is China’s good friend and good partner in the eastern Caribbean Region. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Barbados 44 years ago, the two countries have witnessed constant high-level exchanges and fruitful cooperation.
