PM Holness hints to introduce new vaccination policies ahead

After completion of the public education campaign regarding vaccination and vaccine, the Government in Jamaica is moving forward to introduce new vaccine policies.

PM Holness stated that in the given time the, the major group of the population should be given the information about the vaccine and further, they should be given a choice in vaccine doses, and they should also opportunity to get vaccinated if they want.

PM Holness said, “We will respect people’s rights and the process before we do anything, but we can’t continue like this for much longer; our children must go back to school. They have suffered the most, and so there will come a time when we will have to insist upon persons taking the vaccines.”

In North Central Clarendon, PM Holness was on a journey of Vaccination Blitz sites. On Thursday, October 7, 2021, Prime Minister Holness gave these statements.

Additionally, while making a statement, Prime Minister Holness said that vaccines saved many people in society from getting destroyed in the past and at this time, the country had reached that point of time where the COVID-19 outbreak has been affecting daily life. PM Holness said it should be appreciated that if we don’t take the vaccine, the country would not return to normal.

The Prime Minister said, “Those who don’t take the vaccine remain the host population for the reproduction and mutation of the virus. The consequence of this is that the people who would have taken the vaccine will face the potential of being infected by a mutated version of the virus for which the original vaccine they took would not be as effective.”

In the meantime, while several areas have called on the Government to implement differentiating measures quickly, the Prime Minister states that he regards the right and freedom of Jamaicans and thinks that there must be a period of reasoning with Jamaicans to guarantee they recognise that their freedom is not without commitment and accountability.
