PM Holness fulfilling Jamaicans ‘HOPE’

Jamaica: Jamaican Prime Minister is at the work mode nowadays, on 12thFebruary, he hands over a new housing solution to a mother of two, Vanesia Reid, in St. Andrew Southern. 

In his statement, the prime minister said,” In November 2018, I announced that Jamaica’s Government would be implementing a social housing initiative under the Housing, Opportunity, Production, and Employment Programme (HOPE). “

The Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation has oversight for the construction of these homes. The Programme was developed to improve the housing condition of the country’s poor and needy population. 

A total of 290 applications have been received from Members of Parliament across 58 constituencies. Of the 290 applications received, 213 have been approved by the New Social Housing Project Oversight Committee (POC). 

He notified that It is expected that all projects will be completed by the end of the 2020/2021 financial year. 

“To restore and revitalize the economy, we must invest in the people of Jamaica and the infrastructure of our country.” PM Holness said. 

Housing is fundamental in the social and economic well-being of individuals and communities.

Andrew Holness also said that this government is working hard to ensure the process of owning a home is more comfortable and much more affordable for all Jamaicans.

PM also noted, “We have built and started a record number of houses, and we will continue this trend so that Jamaicans can recognize their homeownership dreams.”

He also handed over serviced lots to beneficiaries of the Windcrest Hills (Hellshire Phase 2) in St. Catherine. 

The National Housing Trust (NHT) has developed seventy (70) service lots at Windcrest Hills (Hellshire Phase 2), St. Catherine. These serviced lots form part of ninety-two (92) service lots, twenty-two (22) handed over in 2019. 

Housing remains a crucial priority for the Government of Jamaica. The National Housing Trust (NHT) has recorded impressive levels of housing starts and housing completions delivered to the market.

The National Housing Trust (NHT) remains committed to improving Jamaicans’ quality of life by facilitating homeownership and community development, particularly among lower-income contributors, while ensuring prudent financial management.
