Basseterre: Dr Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, has congratulated the Government and people of Grenada on their 48th anniversary of independence.
On Monday, February 7, 2022, the OECS nation celebrated its 48th anniversary of independence.
In a congratulatory message to Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister Harris said, “On behalf of the Government and citizens of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, and on my personal behalf, I extend heartfelt congratulations to you and the people of Grenada, on this celebratory occasion – Forty-eight Anniversary of Independence.”
The theme for the country’s 48th anniversary was “Overcoming our Adversity – Protecting Livelihoods – Protecting Our Future.”
The theme “speaks to bringing all citizens together in a spirit of unity and strength,” according to Prime Minister Harris.
Dr. Harris stated, “It is my genuine hope that Grenadians will celebrate this milestone with renewed enthusiasm, fortitude, commitment, and collective will to make a positive influence and continue to contribute in Grenada’s overall growth.”
“I will continue to keep you and the people of Grenada in my prayers, that you may be blessed with ongoing success, progress, and prosperity,” the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis told Dr Keith Mitchell as his country commemorated this momentous time in history.
In 1974, Grenada gained independence from the United Kingdom.
“I congratulate the people of Grenada on their 48th anniversary of independence” on behalf of the United States government, said Blinken.
Grenada and the United States have deep links and a long-standing relationship. He said that they value Grenada’s contribution to resolving the climate issue, and are delighted to collaborate with the country to strengthen regional security and enhance the Caribbean’s health and prosperity.
“Our engagement with Grenada in the areas of education and entrepreneurship helps to ensure that the people of Grenada have a brighter future. We anticipate the opening of two emergency operations centres in Grenada and Carriacou in the coming year, which will contribute to Grenada’s security and resilience,” Blinken added
The United States appreciated strong bilateral partnership and wished Grenada’s inhabitants a happy Independence Day.
