PM Harris condole on the first death reported due to COVID mutant

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis expresses condolences to the family of the deceased who died due to the novel coronavirus on 17 June 2021. The deceased was a resident of Nevis island.

PM Harris asserted, “I am saddened that we have lost one person in the fight to defeat the novel coronavirus. My condolences to the family and loved ones. God will comfort you all.”

The confirmation of the first death was given by the Minister of Health of St Kitts and Nevis – Akilah Byron-Nisbett.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, this was the first death reported due to the deadly mutant, while worldwide, 38.4 lakh deaths have been reported amid the coronavirus pandemic.

As per the COVID-19 statistics, there are a total of 279 novel coronavirus cases were reported on the sister islands since the pandemic started, out of which a total of seventy patients have been recovered from the deadly mutant, as of 17 June 2021.

So far, a total of 66.9 per cent of the SKN population has received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, at the same time, a total of 32.4 per cent of the population of sister islands have received their second jab of the COVID-19 vaccine and are fully vaccinated now.

Amid the current COVID-19 situation in the country, a few days back, the government of St Kitts and Nevis announced the State of Emergency – SOE. The SOE came into effect from 16 June at 6 pm and would be in effect till 6 July 2021.

The Governor-General of SKN made the SOE announcement. Despite this, the government of St Kitts and Nevis is reminding its citizens to follow the COVID-19 health protocols in order to defeat the pandemic and has asked them to be more careful.
