St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris attended the United States Caribbean Leader virtual meeting with the other leaders of Caribbean countries on Friday, April 29, 2022. The meeting was hosted by the Vice President of the United States- Kamala Harris. 

The discussion revolved around the severe effects of climate change on small island nations such as Caribbean countries. 

“St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris and CARICOM Heads hold important talks with US Vice President Kamala Harris in a virtual setting,” as per the government of the Federation. 

The leaders discussed the way forward for greater partnerships and cooperation in a number of key areas, including climate change and security.

Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris has joined his fellow Caribbean leaders in a virtual meeting with the Vice President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris, later on Friday, April 29.

Vice President Harris and the CARICOM Heads have discussed a number of pertinent matters of interest to the Caribbean region, including security cooperation, health, climate resilience and energy security, as well as economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The US-Caribbean Leaders virtual meeting was held at around 4: 30 pm. 

Prime Minister Timothy Harris and his colleague heads are addressing the issue of Financial Stability in the sub-region during the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Monetary Council Policy Session that is currently underway in a virtual setting.

Various other Caribbean leaders such as Prime Minister Philip J Pierre, Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, and Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley have joined the meeting. 

United States Vice President Kamala Harris also expressed pleasure after hosting the meeting with the Caribbean leaders. She also stated that they have touched on various matters of concern, especially the effects of climate change on the small island nations.  

She noted, “As a neighbour in the Western Hemisphere, the United States shares a common bond with the nations of the Caribbean. This afternoon I convened leaders of the Caribbean to strengthen our partnership around economic recovery, security, climate and energy.”
