Antigua and Barbuda: Leader of Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party and Prime Minister Gaston Browne launched Dean Jones from St Georges constituency for the January 18 general elections. During the launch ceremony, he stated that the government wanted to grow the country’s economy by approximately 8 to 8.5 percent in 2023.

The launch ceremony was held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Potters Sports Complex where he asserted that that this year in 2023, they expect to grow the country’s economy by approximately 8 to 8.5 percent and in the last, the government has grown the country’s economy by 8.3 percent and assuming that the funds from UWI five islands, the $216 million start to flow early.

Outlining the investment made by his administration, PM Gaston Browne said that they are spending in the constituency of 50 million dollars and Harrison has also given them the grant for this and the representative will tell the developmental plans for the community. The plans will include the distribution of the affordable housing to the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

He said, ”I want to reassure the people of St Georges, the glue potters that I will continue to work with their representative to build out the socioeconomic infrastructure of this community and again I appeal to all the people of St George to continue to support Dean Jones.  PM Browne also briefly spoke about the economy and added that he told the people from time to time, the next level is not cliché, it is a frontier of development of progress and prosperity.

He added, ”The growth in the economy means that more jobs will be created, the government will earn more revenues and will be able to address a number of issues such as public servants can get large increases, pensioners too can get the increase. So we have a number of projects that are taking place and we have number of projects that will come in stream.

PM Browne asserted that in the hotel sector, currently, Halcyon Hotel is being rebuilt which will create over 800 jobs by November of this year and Antigua and Barbuda will also have the expansion of the sandles which will create another 300 jobs by the next tourism season. In addition to that, Barbuda have PLH that will generate another 400 to 500 permanent jobs.

About tourism, PM Gaston Browne stated that the global ports have mobilized which will generate $100 million tourism and cruise tourism facility. So the jobs are coming, investments are coming and the good thing is that the government is using the revenue of the country to ehnace the socio-economic infrastructure of the country.

Talking about manifesto, he said, ”In the manifesto, we would have indicated to you that we will take healthcare to the next level which includes the establishment of the Cardiac unit in which we will do non-invasive procedures to include installation of stats, pacemakers and we will also increase the amount of kidney transplants that we do in this country because we also billing out are renal units. We are taking Antigua and Barbuda to the next level.”

He said that this development has not come by chance, they come through planning, competence and visionary leadership.

About infrastructure, PM Browne added that the main arteries are being rebuilt and when people look at sports, the government of Antigua and Barbuda have spent over $500 million to expand the cargo and cruise ports.

While talking about Dean Jones, PM Gaston Browne stated that Dean Jones is a man who served this community with distinction for eight and half years.

He said that he is a man who comes with the skills to take St Georges to the next level of progress, the next level of prosperity. PM Gaston Browne asked the people of St Georges to make the right choice and keep the people like in UPP out of the matter of public interest because at the end of the day, opposition has nothing to offer to the people of the constituency.

While criticizing the opposition, PM Gaston Browne asserted that opposition is not the people to be trusted and on other hand Dr Dean Jones is a man of integrity, a man who wants to serve the people of the community.

He further outlined the progress of St George citing St George will note that this community is now emerging as an educational hub and the government has built the Sir Nova Richards Academy and also expanding Abbeys Youth Skills or former youth skills which is Antigua Barbuda Institute for continue education, the Harrison Centre.
