Saint Lucia: The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia island – Allen Chastanet, computed on the initiatives implemented by his government in the field of education.
Through his social media post, the prime minister noted that the government of St Lucia had increased the school rehabilitation budget from $1 Million to $10 Million a year. The government also increased the budget for the School Feeding and School Transportation Programmes.
Following the statement, he added that the government also distributed more than 8000 Tablets and 4000 MIFI devices to students and teachers and that his government increased the scholarships number convenient to local students by 100 per cent.
He added, “The UWP government has constructed the New Dennery Primary School and the New Choiseul Secondary School.”
The government has also started the establishment of Smart Classrooms within schools across the island and has increased the number of Back to School Bursaries to helpless families, the PM Chastanet added.
The prime minister further cited, “Our government has also commenced the construction of a new SMART Block for Micoud Secondary, which is in progress.”
He added that the government also supported the introduction of four Bachelor’s Degree programmes at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Business Administration, Public Health, Environmental Studies, and Sustainable Tourism.
“The UWP has also constructed the New Monchy Early Childhood Development Centre, the New Jacmel Early Childhood Development Centre and the New Micoud Early Childhood Development Centre.” PM Chastanet added.
Following the statement, the prime minister further informed that his government has also introduced the Education Quality Improvement Programme – EQUIP, which includes the construction of three new schools and a new Special Needs Learning Institution, among the other initiatives.
He further added, “Our government sees education as giving the platform to enable all the citizens of Saint Lucia to achieve their full human potential. Education constitutes an investment in our people, in our future, in our human capital towards the creation of the new Saint Lucia which we are committed to building.”
