Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister Gaston Browne, along with Sir Rodney Williams, joined and congratulated Dr. Joseph John on Doctors Hospital and Medical Complex’s groundbreaking.
While congratulating Dr. John on the multi-million dollar project, PM Browne said that Dr. John is a visionary, pioneer, and a successful entrepreneur in the field of medicine, seeing that the private medical institution stands as a testimony of a strong Antiguan and Barbudan.
Dr. Joseph John worked as Chief Surgeon at the then Hoberlton hospital from 1994-2005 and was influential in developing and constructing The Mount St. John’s Medical Center (MSJMC).
The ceremonial turning of the Sod was conducted by Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, Sir Mowlyn Joseph, His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Dr. Joseph John, and wife, Mrs. Laurie John.
Dr. Errol Cort also mastered the ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Trade, Hon. E.P Chet Greene and Minister of Tourism and Investment, the Hon Charles Fernandez, attended the momentous occasion.
The private medical complex will be constructed at the City Park Development ( Woods Estate).
Stamers, a resident of Antigua, said,” Congratulations, Dr. John and Mrs. John. God Bless you to continue your excellent work.”
The Cabinet also invited the Receiver of the Jolly Beach Hotel and the General Manager of the property (before it was shuttered) to negotiate a price for the hotel’s use as a Government quarantine center.
The agreement reached was acceptable, and the hotel can be made ready in two weeks to receive the quarantined persons. Jolly Beach can house up to 800 persons. The Halcyon Hotel, currently used as the center, has asked for the hotel to be returned to begin repairs and refurbishment.
The State of Antigua and Barbuda would make good on its obligation to PAHO within a week. The Cabinet decided to bring its obligations up-to-date, given the enormously valuable role the PAHO has been playing.
