PM Browne met young Pitcher ‘Portes’ to extend wishes on achieving success in Baseball

While informing about the meeting, the office of the prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda, through his Facebook post, noted, "On Monday, Prime Minister Gaston Browne met with young Antiguan and Barbudan pitcher Ovis Portes in his office to congratulate him on his major sporting success".

Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister Gaston Browne met with young Antiguan and Barbudian pitcher Ovis Portes in his office to extend wishes to him on his major sporting success on Monday, March 21, 2022. 

While informing about the meeting, the office of the prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda, through his Facebook post, noted, “On Monday, Prime Minister Gaston Browne met with young Antiguan and Barbudan pitcher Ovis Portes in his office to congratulate him on his major sporting success”. 

The Boston Red Sox recently signed Ovis to play in the minor league baseball in the United States.

Prime Minister Browne encouraged the young baseball player to work hard, stay focused and remain vigilant throughout this next stage of his sporting career. 

He further outlined the importance of sports activity and also assured the enhancement of the sports sector in Antigua and Barbuda. PM Browne also assured the baseball athlete of his government’s commitment and support.

Portes represented Antigua and Barbuda in 2017 at the Caribbean Pre World Series Little League Baseball Tournament played at Stanford’s cricket pitch in Coolidge.

During the meeting and greet with PM Browne, Ovis was accompanied by his mother, Rodiel Portes, and a prominent leader in the local Hispanic community, Manuel Melenciano.

PM Browne encouraged every citizen of the country to participate in a sports activity to stay fit and fine. 

While extending wishes to Ovis, various residents of Antigua and Barbuda congratulated him on his achievement. 

One of the residents named Rosemond Dinard-Gordon expressed, “Congratulations again, Ovis! Forge ahead with dignity, integrity and excellence. Many of us are proud of you and your accomplishment. Keep up the amazing work! SMSS Proud”. 

Another resident named Jose George King stated, “Congratulations to the young athlete on his achievement a product of Antigua/Barbuda Little League Baseball, the only baseball program present in Antigua which been affiliated to Little League Baseball Inc. since 1994, but there is something to be corrected the president of Antigua/ Barbuda Little league Baseball is not Mr Manuel Melenciano but Mr Jose George”.
