St Lucia: Saint Lucia Labour party (SLP) stated that Prime Minister Allen Chastanet is Arrogant and he is Afraid of the People.
“Prime Minister Allen Chastanet knows that he and his uncaring UWP are headed for a massive defeat when the election is called,” SLP noted.
” His interview on the radio this week suggesting that he would push holding the election beyond the five-year mark of 6 June 2021. Why? He blames COVID-19, but, the reality is, he is afraid of the people.” SLP added.
SLP further noted that the global pandemic began, there have been successful elections held across CARICOM, including in Anguilla, Belize, Bermuda, Jamaica, Suriname, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago and the Turks & Caicos Islands. Elections will be held in the following weeks in the Cayman Islands as well.
SLP added that elections can be held safely during COVID-19 using PPE and social distancing.
The main opposition party of St Lucia stated that, in reality, the Prime Minister is afraid of the people because he knows his uncaring government has failed to provide people a social safety net during the pandemic.
“He has failed to put money in people’s pockets and food on the table to see people through. And, he knows that upon election, the SLP will do these things to help working people during difficult times.” SLP noted.
“Mr Prime Minister, stop hiding behind the pandemic. Call the election, now!” it added.
