Patricia Scotland also shared an update on the launch of the "Combatting Corruption in the Commonwealth Caribbean", which facilitated the small island countries to combat the effects of the Corruption.

St Kitts and Nevis: Patricia Scotland QC- who is the sixth and first woman Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, is on her official tour to the Caribbean countries. 

On Monday, May 23, 2022, she attended the Anti-Corruption Conference in St Kitts and Nevis and expressed her pleasure in highlighting the drawbacks and negative impacts of Corruption. 

Patricia Scotland also shared an update on the launch of the “Combatting Corruption in the Commonwealth Caribbean”, which facilitated the small island countries to combat the effects of the Corruption

At the conference, she also expressed her views and agendas for the position of the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. 

Patricia Scotland noted, “Delighted to be back in the Caribbean for the Anti-Corruption Conference in #St Kitts and Nevis. Time and time again, this conference has proven to be an important platform to share knowledge, experience and expertise on regional #Anti Corruption efforts.”

She exclaimed that Corruption is one of the biggest impediments to achieving #SDGs. No country, region or community is immune. As a Commonwealth family, we must stand #United Against Corruption to create a lasting, positive space for sustainable development and for our people to flourish.

“Urgent action is needed to #Stamp Out Corruption. That’s why, under my leadership, I’ve made tackling Corruption a top priority. We at The Commonwealth stand ready to support member states on anti-corruption efforts and will continue to do so,” underscored Patricia Scotland.

Expressing pleasure, she emphasized that she was pleased to launch the “Combatting Corruption in the Commonwealth Caribbean officially”. Edited by our very own award-winning Advisor, Dr Roger Koranteng, this book highlights the ways in which six countries – The Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines – have made significant progress in combatting Corruption.

Further, Patricia Scotland is an elected candidate for the top position of the Commonwealth Secretary-General, where she is competing with Kamina Johnson Smith.  

Various delegations of St Kitts and Nevis have also joined the Anti-corruption conference in which the leader of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, Denzil Douglas also present.
