PAM, CCM promises to withdraw Prison Project after comes into power
St Kitts and Nevis: People’s Action Movement (PAM) and Concerned Citizens’ Movement (CCM) condemned the ‘Prison Project‘ proposed by Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris led-administration and promised the public of St Kitts and Nevis the withdrawal of the project once they are elected as representatives of the twin-island. PAM-CCM further reaffirmed that their policies are ‘people centred’ irrespective of the Harris government, which is established on the grounds of selfishness.
Leaders from both parties- Shawn K Richards and Mark Brantley, held the media conference held yesterday, June 27 at St Kitts Marriott.
Richards, leader of PAM, during his address, criticized the prison project highlighting that it would only be beneficial to the Harris government and is not even one percent in the interest of the general public. Richards believes there is an urgent need to halt this project, adding that it must be returned so that public consultation is considered on the scheme.
Targeting PLP and PM Harris over the project, Brantley designated the PLP chair as a ‘failed leader’, whose priority is not to provide quality education, bolster the health sector, and employment, but one who prefers ‘Prison Project’. He then urged the people of the twin-island Federation to wake up and raise their voices on the ‘Scam Prison Project’.
“Any leader in the world who prefers to fund incarnation over education is a failed leader”, cited Brantley.
Speaking with facts and showing Budget 2021 as evidence, Brantley emphasized that the amount allocated for the project in December 2021 was 88 Million ECD which eventually now has hiked to ec dollars 2.4 Billion – an amount which is six times more than the whole money delivered to Nevis in the last seven years.
He then raised questions seeking answers from PM Harris administration on a sudden massive enlargement in the total allotted amount for the project.
Not only this but a promise was also delivered by Richards as well as Brantley to withdraw the project once PAM-CCM comes into power, hoping that the election date will be released by next week.
Further blaming the government for nepotism, Richards asserted, “Instead of using their power to construct institutions, people and forge a better future for the people of St Kitts and Nevis, the Harris administration is actively and publicly abusing its’ power, ignoring wants and needs of people”.
He then claimed that all the contracts are awarded by the PM Harris government to its close allies (friends and family) rather than providing an opportunity to the hard-working Kittitians and Nevisians.
Calling the leadership of PM Harris as ineffective governance, Richards further added that there is a requirement to present a modernized and forward-thinking worldview for the future of the Federation, which is apparently reflected in the policies of PAM-CCM.
Mark Brantley underscoring the concept of fair share, noted that the houses by PM Harris’ administration have only been constructed in just one constituency, adding that the growth and development of a nation must not be centred on a specific area but as a whole.
Summing up his statement, he wished and hoped that the people of the twin-island Federation would wake up and choose the right one as their representative.
