The report further noted that the majority of these cases are of domestic servitude. The foundation, collectively with the cooperative of Lawyers specialized in Strategic Human Rights Litigation, revived that infants, often burdened with work, must ignore their schooling to meet the demands of their surrogate parents.

The head of Depase fwontyè – Rosemond Manace, pointed out and stated, “The foundation supplements some 160 child victims and works to reintegrate them into their family of origin.”

In the year 2019, the coordinator of the Haitian Observatory against Trafficking and Human Trafficking – Leronel Mortimé, criticized that the practice of restavèk as one of the manifestations of modern slavery, tolerated by our society.

In the year of 2019, the organization identified at least 280,000 children living in captivity and further demanded that the authorities take care of the people who fall into these networks, punish those responsibly, and enforce international conventions and laws on human trafficking. At the same time, they are established public policies that improve the living conditions of the population.

These structures are encouraged actors in the judicial system to act against those who exploit children to attempt to decrease the number of families who resort to the practice.

According to the earlier media reports, children from Haiti are being trafficked to the Dominican Republic island in large numbers, with girls abused mainly for sex and boys were forced to work.

As per the Haitian child protection legislation, anyone below the age of 18 can be considered a sufferer of child trafficking.

A Haitian national accused of trafficking and sexually abusing teenage girls was arrested on 24 March 2021, in the town of Puerto Plata in Dominica, as per the reports.

Police had a warrant against a 40-year-old man out for his arrest in Haiti for trafficking girls and forcing them into prostitution work. Two of the victims were of ages 13 and 16. The victims stated that they were taken against their consent and were forced to have sex with the foreigners.
