Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit has taken rein upon the ongoing continuous spike in the number of COVID-19 cases across the island during the recent Annou Pale show.

In the beginning, PM Skerrit firstly congratulated the newly elected Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, on leading a massive success during the recently held election on the island. While greeting, PM Skerrit said, “Barbados deserves a Prime Minister like Mia Mottley.”

Further, he asserted that COVID-19 would be going to impact the lives of people, and one should develop a habit of living with it. But, the government is planning to bring the hassling situation to very normalcy and is engaging with the industry stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the government authorities have approved safety protocols for special entertainment events. The protocols will be applied to the events taking place between the time period of February 20, 2022, to March first week. While emphasizing the additional requirements, the government authorities have restricted that events will be opened to completely vaccinated people.

While disclosing the details about the available venues for the events, PM Skerrit said, “the Windsor Park Sports Stadium and the Old Hill Cultural Centre will be two available venues for hosting the events.

While focusing on the public capacity, PM Skerrit said the Windsor Park Sports Stadium would be holding capacity to accommodate over 500 patrons. Whereas, the Old Hill Court will be approved for only virtual events and would hold the capacity to accommodate over 200 patrons at a time.

While ensuring the safety measures to be the point of concern, PM Skerrit said that, the whole staff should be completely vaccinated and must provide a negative antigen test done within 24 hours of the event.

The guidelines further added that the events shall be completed within the given time of 6 hours and must not exceed the time limit, and only one event could be held in a day.

Meanwhile, while reining on the soaring COVID-19 cases, government authorities said that there should be no gathering of the groups or troops, and there shall be no village carnivals to be held without seeking permission from the government.

PM Skerrit further added that, “one can only be considered as completely vaccinated when they ensure that they may have received both of the doses of government-approved vaccines or either they have received a single shot of Johnson and Johnson vaccine.”

The government has enlisted number of vaccines that comes under the slab of government-approved vaccines, including Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson and Johnson, Moderna, Sputnik, Sinopharm, Abadala and Sobarena.
