“No convincing evidence discovered of the alleged abduction of Mehul Choksi,” says PM Browne

The prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda - Gaston Browne, stated on Tuesday that no convincing evidence has been discovered by any authorities suggesting the alleged abduction of Mehul Choksi.

Antigua: The prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda – Gaston Browne, stated on Tuesday that no convincing evidence has been discovered by any authorities suggesting the alleged abduction of Mehul Choksi.

PM Browne made the new statement during a parliament session while replying to questions of the leader of opposition Jamale Pringle.

Pringle, who is also a member of the parliament from All Saints East and St Luke, questioned the prime minister regarding the allegations of Mehul Choksi’s abduction from Antigua and Barbuda.

On being asked that if the PM had any conversation with the Scotland Yard, PM Browne replied that nor he or Attorney General had any conversation with any of the regional law enforcement agency & Scotland yard related to the abduction of fugitive Mehul Choksi.

Furthermore, the Antiguan Prime Minister stated that the boat that is in question regarding transporting the Indian fugitive entered the shores of the island through a legal route.

He also stated that all Caribbean countries are struggling with border security. “Relatively in the Caribbean region, the island has a porous border, and evidently, the islands are not having enough manpower and is struggling with it.”

PM also said that the Royal Police of Antigua and Barbuda issued a yellow corner notice to Interpol soon after Choksi went missing. He also assured that all authorities are investigating the incident. However, there is a lack of evidence to prove that he was taken to Dominica forcibly.

Mehul Choksi is an Indian fraudster who had obtained citizenship in Antigua and Barbuda in 2017. He had been residing in the country since 2018; however, on May 23, 2021, he suspiciously went missing from his Jolly Harbour residence. His family and lawyers allege that he had gone to meet a friend and never returned. They also claimed that Choksi was abducted in a joint mission conducted by the Indian and Antiguan authorities.
