Nevis: Premier of Nevis and the leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement- Mark Brantley, announced that the island witnessed a 6.4% increase in jobs as of July 2022. He shared the official data and stated that the government had been focused on job creation post Covid. 

“Here is some official jobs data showing a 6.4% increase in jobs in Nevis as of July 2022. Our sister St Kitts has also seen job growth at 1.4%, and the overall Federation has seen job growth at 1.5%, “Premier Mark Brantley added. 

Mark Brantley also outlined the official data, which showed the job creations in Nevis: 

NEVIS – Number of Jobs

The data for our review period (January-July 2022) showed that the number of jobs on Nevis ranged from 5,606 (July) to 5,890 (April), with an average of 5,819 jobs per month.

The average number of jobs for the same period in 2021 was 5,468 which indicates that there was an increase of 6.4% (351.14) in the average number of jobs in 2022 relative to 2021. One can say that there was a net job gain of 351.14 jobs in 2022 compared to the same period last year.

In terms of Jobs figures, the top ten economic sectors saw the following movement:

  1. Public Administration and Defence sector accounted for, on average 1,915 (32.9) of jobs this year. This sector, however, saw an increase in jobs of 2% or 40 jobs in 2022 vs 2021.
  2. Hotels & Restaurants sector accounted for, on average 1.079 (18.5%) of jobs this year. This sector, however, recorded an increase in jobs of 39% or 303 jobs in 2022 vs 2021.
  3. Wholesale & Retail Trade sector accounted for, on average 629 (10.8%) of jobs this year. This sector, however, recorded an increase in jobs of 8% or 55 jobs in 2022 vs 2021.
  4. Construction sector accounted for, on average 499 (8.6%) of jobs this year. This sector also saw a decline in jobs of 3% or 18 jobs in 2022 vs 2021.
  5. Real Estate, Renting and Business Activities sector accounted for, on average 354 (6.1%) of jobs this year. This sector recorded an increase in jobs of 4% or 13 jobs in 2022 vs 2021.
  6. Financial Intermediation sector accounted for, on average 303 (5.2%) of jobs this year. This sector also saw an increase in jobs of 9% or 25 jobs in 2022 vs 2021.
  7. Transport, Storage and Communications sector accounted for, on average 243 (4.2%) of jobs this year. This sector also saw an increase in jobs of 6% or 13 jobs in 2022 vs 2021.
  8. Agriculture, Hunting and Forestry sector accounted for, on average 141 (2.4%) of jobs this year. This sector also saw an increase in jobs of 5% or 6 jobs in 2022 vs 2021.
  9. Private Household with Employed Persons sector accounted for, on average 140 (2.4%) of jobs this year. This sector also saw a decline in jobs of 1% or 1 jobs in 2022 vs 2021.
  10. Education sector accounted for, on average 130 (2.2%) of jobs this year. This sector also saw a decline in jobs of 3% or 3 jobs in 2022 vs 2021.

Premier Mark Brantley also announced the dissolution of the parliament of Nevis and outlined the island will witness the polling on December 12, 2022. Mark Brantley announced the manifesto and promised to develop the country with different measures.
