St Kitts and Nevis: Michael ‘Mic Stokes’ Heyliger – the father of Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis- Dr Terrance Drew passed away on July 3, 2023. The twin-island Federation expressed condolences on the sudden demise of the celebrated musicians of Caribbean.

Mick Stokes, a true legend of music and a cultural icon in St. Kitts and Nevis has passed away. Today, as we bid farewell to this extraordinary drummer, musician, and vocalist, we celebrate the remarkable legacy he leaves behind.

Mick Stokes, also known as Micheal “Mick” Stokes-Heyligar, was undeniably one of the most gifted vocalists, songwriters, and performers ever to emerge from our beloved country. He was the rhythmic heartbeat of the renowned Ellie Matt and the GI’s Brass, and later the GI’s Brass International. Mick’s unparalleled talent behind the drums elevated every performance, capturing the essence of the music and captivating audiences with his mesmerizing beats.

His timeless anthem, “LIAMUIGA,” sung as a member of the GI’s Brass International, stands as a testament to his deep love and admiration for St Kitts. Through his music, Mick beautifully captured the spirit and essence of our island home, reminding the rich heritage and the beauty of the land.

He was very into the roots of his relatives on Saba, St. Barth’s and St. Maarten. He was related to the Heyliger families on Saba and St. Maarten. He was the former drummer of Ellie Matt and the G.I’s Brass and he was also a member of Tounka and Friends on St. Maarten.
