MEP Elena Kountoura highlights issues of female breast cancer patients in European Parliament

Europe: Elena Kountoura- Member of the European Parliament, attended the event at the EP to highlight critical issues faced by female breast cancer patients and female survivors as they try to return to normal life, but also the need for a European “Right to Forget” that will prevent discrimination, promote social equality and ensure equal access to financial services for all cancer survivors.

She stated, “The strong will to empower women and for zero tolerance towards domestic violence should be reflected primarily in institutional decisions, European and national.” 

MEP Elena Kountoura also shared Alexis Tspiras’s statement on various tragedies in Greece which stated: 

Collective confrontation of society with those who will try to hide the truth. This tragedy should not have happened and there is no excuse for it. Railway workers, especially for the last two years, have been warning persistently, either by strike motions or by extrajudices sent to political leadership. 

The response of the political leadership in Parliament was “shame on those who talk about safety issues of Greek railways.” The response to the extrajudicial and workers strikes has been court appeals to declare the strikes illegal.

Tragedy is not a matter of partisan debate. However, it is a matter of collective debate of the whole society against those who will attempt to conceal or conceal the truth.

Disclaimer, disproportionate responsibility, off settling is an attempts to conceal the truth. The entire Greek society demands truth and demands justice.

One responsibility is individual, of the standard head exclusively, the other collective, all together, so no one in particular. It is an outstanding disclaimer of responsibility, from individual to collective. What we heard yesterday, that “we are all to blame”, reminds me of another phrase heard at an equally critical time for Greek society: “we all ate together”.

We should do everything for truth and justice because Greek society demands responsibility. Not to get revenge on anyone, but to learn the “how and why” of the tragedy so that such a tragedy does not happen again.
