Europe: Elena Kountoura- a Member of the European Parliament, attended the event for Road safety organized by the Parents and Guardians Association of the 2nd GEL Stavroupoli in Thessaloniki, in cooperation with Teachers’ Associations, in memory of 16-year-old Michael, who lost his life when he was run over by a vehicle returning by bike.
While delivering the address, Elena Kountoura added that it is their duty to make road safety a critical priority on the national agenda and invest more vigorously in information and awareness, especially of the youth and all of us.
She spoke to parents and children about my work as a European Parliamentarian in the Report-Resolution on the EU road safety policy framework until 2030. Joining me are the SYRIZA-PS MPs, Christos Giannoulis, who took the initiative of the event, and Katerina Notopoulou with their important positions on the need for drastic restriction of traffic collisions and the importance of information and awareness. Schools are a critical area for cultivating driving mentality and road behavior, with utmost respect for human life.
Also spoke were ND MP Anna Efthimiou, Vice-Region Governor for Public Health & Social Solidarity Melina Maria Dermentzopoulou, Regional Councilor Dimitra Thomas, Mayor Pavlou Mela D. Demourtzidis, the Deputy Mayor of the Environment, Greenery & Volunteering of the Municipality of Pavlos Mela S. Lazaridis and the representative of the Holy Metropolis of Neapoli and Stavroupoli, Archpriest Basil Milios.
MEP Elena Kountoura extended big thanks to the 2nd High School and Gymnasium of Stavroupoli, Director Efthimio Papadimitriou and the President of the Parents and Guardians Association Konstantinos Anthitsos, for the flawless organization. The children are the future, and they must protect them with all our might.
