Europe: Elena Kountoura- Member of the European Parliament, addressed the UNESCO World Sports Conference – MINEPS VII, the 7th International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials in charge of Physical Education and Sport being held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

In her position at the closed of the wide joint conference of Ministers and officials, she stressed the need, in this period of multiple crises, for more dynamic policies to support sport as a crucial sector in improving health and the lives of young people. 

MEP Elena Kountoura said, “And I have been informed about the initiatives of the European Parliament.” 

As part of her participation at the UNESCO – MINEPS VII World Sports Conference in Baku, she met with the Deputy Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan, Farid Jafarov, with whom they discussed overall the issues of tourism, culture and sports.

Earlier, she was also invited to the 7th International Conference of Ministers and Officials on Physical Education and Sport organized by UNESCO in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. 

During the conference, MEP Elena Kountoura met with Azerbaijan Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov and discussed the prospects for progress and prosperity that sport creates in the lives of young people.

An important step for the green transition to transfers is the overvoting of the AFIR regulation, which she formulated, pushing for sufficient charging stations and the protection of consumers against non-profit phenomena. 

“It is now necessary for Member States to implement it correctly by securing sufficient European and national funding for infrastructure to meet the transport needs of everyone without exclusion, “MEP Kountoura added. 

Elena Kountoura presented intervention at the European Parliament’s Plenary Session on the discussion on alternative fuels under the Fit for 55 legislative package.
