Melissa Skerrit extends gratitude to diasporans for donating tennis equipment to Dominica

While stating her intention regarding the sports industry of Dominica, Melissa Skerrit noted that she had always wanted to revive lawn tennis in the city and to develop sports tourism. As sports tourism always help the government to boost economic growth and also encourages the citizens of the country to understand the importance of Sports.

Roseau, Dominica: The Parliamentary Representative of Roseau Constituency Melissa Poponne Skerrit expressed gratitude and lauded a few diasporans, namely Avondale Paul and Lloyd Paul, for donating the tennis equipment to the sports tourism programme and Roseau Central Tennis Programme. On Monday, March 14, 2022, Member of Parliament Melissa Skerrit informed about the donation and stated that she always wanted a bolster in the sports tourism of the Commonwealth of Dominica.

While stating her intention regarding the sports industry of Dominica, Melissa Skerrit noted that she had always wanted to revive lawn tennis in the city and to develop sports tourism. As sports tourism always help the government to boost economic growth and also encourages the citizens of the country to understand the importance of Sports. 

Se encouraged ladies of Dominica and added, “Ladies, get ready to join me on the courts. I have always made clear my intention to revive lawn tennis in the city and to develop sports tourism as it is sure to foster economic growth”.  

Expressing his gratitude to the people who have donated the tennis equipment to Dominica, Member of Parliament affirmed that her vision has found favour with a few diasporans, namely Avondale Paul and Lloyd Paul, who, upon hearing my plans, networked with colleagues and donated tennis equipment to the sports tourism program and Roseau Central tennis program.

She informed that these diasporans, through the collaboration with networked colleagues and donated tennis equipment to help the government to boost sports tourism programmes. The donation was also made to uplift the Roseau Central tennis programme so that Tennis could get prominent in the country.

The donation has been made through the small handing over ceremony held Friday, where Lloyd Paul delivered these much-needed items to Dominica. The Vice President of Dominica Tennis Association, Andrew Carter and Derrick Alexander, Sports Director for Roseau Central, have also accompanied Melissa Skerrit in the ceremony. 

While thanking the delegations for the donation, Melissa Skerrit reiterated,” I would like to sincerely thank our benefactors for their selfless gesture to our sports program, namely Joe Messmer of Columbia Country Club in Maryland, James Armstrong, Dunbar Henri and Larry Bailey”. 

This will certainly jumpstart the plans of the government to develop Tennis not just for sports tourism but also by providing training sessions for school children, underscored Melissa Skerrit.

While applauding the initiative of the government, one of the residents named Elizabeth Xavier commented, “Way to go, my Lady! I am glad to know that there are people in the diaspora who are willing to help you fulfil this innovation. It is a good plan for the tourists, because many people love Tennis, and it is another form of recreation for the tourists who visit Dominica. Know that I am always praying for your success in all your undertakings. Go for it with Faith in our Lord Most High”. 

Another resident named Sawana Fabien noted, “Great Job, uncle Lloyd and Avo; charity begins at home, and you have so gracefully contributed, firstly to the development of sports in your community (BENSE) and now extending your reach to the rest of Dominica. May God continue to expand your network that you both may continue to be a blessing. Proud Nice”.
