Roseau, Dominica: The Parliamentary Representative of Roseau Constituency Melissa Popoone Skerrit announced the two participants of youth parliaments who will be representing Roseau Central at the National Youth Parliament which is scheduled for March 23 to 24, 2022.

The two participants named Keanu Winston and Paloma Mark have already secured the title of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in 2014.

While declaring the names of the participants, Melissa Skerrit, through her Facebook Post, cited, “The future is bright! I am very proud to present the former winner of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s 2014 sitting Keanu Winston and Paloma Mark, who will be representing Roseau Central at the National Youth Parliament carded for March 23-24, 2022″.

She stated that these two exceptional orators would positively impact their wider community and encouraged them to get familiar with the youth parliament.

Stressing upon the approach of the young generation towards the country, Melissa Skerrit emphasized that the young people of the Commonwealth of Dominica are so passionate about the country, and they are working tirelessly for its development and upliftment.

Member of Parliament further urged the citizens of Dominica to get exposure from the great opportunities and noted that Parents should expose their children to Parliament proceedings as these current youth parliamentarians developed an interest in that manner and will most likely go on to be senators, Parliamentary Representatives or future politicians.

“I wish all the participants good luck in this endeavour. I am truly proud”, underscored Melissa Skerrit.

Earlier, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit also outlined the significance of the Youth Parliament and stated that the step would encourage active citizenship among Youth by increasing their participation in different aspects of society.

PM Skerrit informed about the various topics of the youth parliament and outlined, “The youth parliamentarians will debate on matters such as Marijuana as an Economic Driver, Mandatory Vaccination, Housing Development, Geothermal Energy and the International Airport.”

Stressing upon the benefits of the youth parliament, PM Skerrit emphasized that Youth Parliament plays an efficient role in the overall development of Youth as it instils confidence among them and broadens their knowledge in national development.

While shedding light on the importance of youth Parliament, the prime minister underscored, “I believe this Youth Parliament can play an important role in fulfilling the objectives of building a more inclusive society, creating greater opportunities for the nation’s youth and putting our young people, their views, ideas and aspirations at the centre of national life”.
