St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda: London based barrister Michael Polak on Monday requested secretary-general of CARICOM, Irwin LaRocque, for a meeting related to Mehul Choksi, who is under the custody of Dominica police and facing a criminal trial in the court of justice.
Playing another gimmick to misguide the court of law, London based lawyer has made a request to Secretary-General to intervene into the matter. The statement is clearly a baseless attempt as the case is already under the Eastern Caribbean High Court, and the region gives high regard to the courts.
Mehul Choksi’s lawyers perpetuate to push false narratives to mislead the judgement of the court.
Barrister Michael Polak, who is handling the case of Mehul Choksi from London, is also under the scrutiny of Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and Bar Standards Board (BSB) for allegedly fabricating the legal evidences following an official complaint.
The complaint further read that he failed to carry out the process of KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti Money Laundering) on his client Mehul Choksi. He has not cleared the source of funds, payment getaway and other formalities before taking the case.
People from all around the world prefers the Caribbean region for holidays not only for its beauty but also for the safe and sound environment the island countries offer. The small states in the region rely on tourism for their economic stability. And people who have a criminal background like Mehul Choksi are primarily unwelcome into the islands as they damage the image of the small tourist countries. Abduction like stories seriously harms the heart of the Caribbean as this is the region that has lower crime rates than other tourist destinations.
Maintaining a secure environment is imminent for these countries to accomplish their goals. It shows how significant it is for these small nations is to be free of any types of individuals who are capable of ruining or impacting the atmosphere.
Mehul Choksi’s lawyers claim that he was honey-trapped by Indian and Antiguan authorities. However, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne declared in the parliament that investigations are undergoing and no conclusive evidence prove that Choksi was forcefully taken to Dominica. He also stated that the boat, which was ostensibly utilized for the alleged abduction, entered the country through a legal route and left early, even before Choksi was found missing.
Mehul Choksi – the Indian origin Antiguan citizen who had been arrested in Dominica, is one such example. After the Dominican authorities captured him, CARICOM countries became renowned even in India, where Choksi is wanted in a $2 billion fraud case.
While Mehul Choksi’s lawyers continue to say that he was abducted, real evidence proved that it was a mere attempt to escape his extradition. He was expecting a court hearing in November 2021, where the sources revealed that his repatriation was suspected.
It appears that problems for Mehul Choksi are not getting any better as Barbara Jarabica had made a statement publicly that Choksi made an attempt to grapple her and tried to kiss her twice, which makes it more probable that Jarabica could file a lawsuit against Choksi in either Antigua and Barbuda or Europe’s court of justice against sexual harassment. She stated, “Choksi attempted to kiss and tried to come too close while we were sharing drinks in his office in Antigua.”
Babara Jarabica told the media that she had mentioned to Choksi that she has a boyfriend back home and is not looking for any sugar daddy; however, Choksi still continued to push himself on her, resulting in an argument between the two.
Babara Jarabica also told the media that she was in Antigua and Barbuda for tourism purpose, and met Choksi during her evening walks. She also said that she didn’t know who was Mehul Choksi as he had introduced himself as Raj and everyone around called him “Raj”.
Senior detectives earlier said that the close proximity among Choksi and Jarabica could have ended up in much more worst circumstances as people who forcibly grapple a girl can go to any extent to quench the thirst of physical needs.
After the lawyer filed a complaint in Scotland Yard, United Kingdom, it was later discovered that the complaint was based on the imagination and plan created by the team members of Choksi who are attempting to cover up the entire escape saga.
Mehul Choksi went missing on May 23, 2021; his close-aide Govin told the media that he left for Cuba, where he owns a safe house. Babara Jarabica also told the press that he had mentioned his villa in Cuba several times. Govin also told the media that Choksi holds citizenship from another Caribbean country besides Antigua and Barbuda.
Mehul Choksi had been declared a fugitive by the government of India in a $2 billion fraud that he committed against the country’s second-biggest public lender Punjab National Bank.
