At last night’s The Barbados Olympic Association’s 2022 Annual Awards Ceremony, some of our Pirates swimmers were recognized by the Association for their achievements in their respective disciplines:

  • Jaiya Simmons won the People’s Choice Award and Junior Female Athlete of the Year Award.
  • Fynn Armstrong won the award for Junior Male Athlete of the Year for his performances in Athletics and Triathlon.
  • Matthew Wright, former Pirate, won Senior Male Athlete Special Recognition Award.
  • Dave Farmer won the Coach of the Year Award.
  • Danielle Treasure was a nominee for Senior Female Athlete of the Year and was recognized for her performance at the Caribbean Games.
  • Hailey Banfield was a nominee for Junior Female Athlete of the Year for her performance in Triathlon.

Meet Heidi Stoute

Heidi Stoute brought a spectacular end to the competitive season for 2022. At SCNAT, Heidi was awarded the High Point Trophy for her spectacular performance at this year’s Championships. In addition to winning 1 Bronze, 1 Silver and 5 Gold Medals, Heidi also broke 5 SC Records.

Meet Fayth Jeffrey

Last week’s SCNAT was the end of a very successful 2022 and 11-12 Year Age Group for Fayth Jeffrey with some excellent Short Course performances.

Overall, Fayth placed 3rd in the 11-12 Age Group with 6 Personal Best Times out of 10 Events. In addition, Fayth also established FOUR (4) St. Lucia 11-12 Age-Group Records in the following events:

  • 100m IM –
    1:09.94 (previous record held by Fayth Jeffrey with a time of 1:11.88 lset in 2021).
  • 400m IM –
    5:32.89 (previous record held by Fayth Jeffrey with a time of 5:32.89 set in 2021).
  • 200m Breaststroke –
    2:57.22 (previous record held by Fayth Jeffrey with a time of 2:59.66 set in 2021).
  • 100m Breaststroke –
    1:18.74 (previous record held by Danielle Beaubrun with a time of 1:20.70 set in 2003).

Fayth also set National Short Course Records in the 100m IM and the 400m IM, resetting her own National records set in 2021.

Meet Rebecca Weekes: 

Rebecca Weekes took home the award for the 13-14 Girls Age-group Champion. Rebecca won 3 Gold medals, 2 Silver medals, and 4 Bronze medals. She also collected points for her 4th place finish.

Meet Jaiya Simmons

Jaiya Simmons won the award for the 11-12 Girls age-group Champion at the recently concluded SCNAT ’22. Jaiya gave her usual dominant performance, receiving 9 Gold medals and 2 Silver medals. Here, Jaiya is pictured receiving her trophy from 2nd Vice President, Nicholas Beckles.

Meet Kaija Eastmond 

At the end of 6 days of competition at this year’s SCNAT, Kaija Eastmond emerged as the 9-10 Age-Group Champion. She won 11 Gold medals and 1 Silver medal.

In the Girls 9-10 50m Freestyle, Kaija Eastmond was our line medal winner in this event. She won the Gold in just 30.53s.

The history of the players in other events are as follows: 

The competitors were Marai Mayers (10th), Zavia Branch (12th), Lucrezia Chiomento (13th), Raine Brathwaite (17th), Jayla-Marie Blunte (18th), Shania Corbin (20th) and Anna White (21st). In the Boys, Tejay Bynoe placed 15th.

Further, Kenyah Deane won the Gold medal in the Girls 13-14 50 Meter Freestyle in 28.35s. In 4th place was Rebecca Weekes in 29.34s, Heidi Baker placed 6th with 30.00s and Naraia McClean was 9th with 30.12.

In the Boys 13-14 50 Meter Freestyle, Daniel Lashley was in 12th place with 30.71s, and coming in 17th position was Gabriel Boos with 32.52s. In the Boys 15-17 50m Freestyle, Aquan Crichlow placed 4th with his time of 25.74, and Fynn Armstrong placed 13th in 27.87s.

We had a strong representation in the Girls 11-12 50m Freestyle. Jaiya Simmons not only won the Gold medal but also set a New Record time in this event with her time of 27.12. The previous record of 27.82 was set back in 2001.

Winning the Silver medal was Heidi Stoute with her time of 27.79, and Toria Alleyne took away the Bronze medal with her time of 28.42. Fayth Jeffrey placed 6th in 29.44, Kaitlin Balgobin was 7th, in 13th place was Khalia Springer, Amara Kirton placed 21st and Victori Bourne placed 27th. In the Boys event, Walton Yarbrough finished in 5th place with 29.29s. His brother Hamilton Yarbrough was 12th, and placing 16th was Cassius Narain.

Zachary Ladipo placed 3rd out of 23 competitors in the Boys 8&U 50 Meter Freestyle, taking home the Bronze medal in 37.00s. In the Girls event, Rowan Watson placed 10th, Nalani Nurse was 12th, and Quinn Narain placed 17th. Overall, 36 swimmers competed in this event.

The Girls 13-14 100 Meter Breaststroke saw Rebecca Weekes take the Silver in 1:24.77 and Naraia McClean placing 3rd, taking home the Bronze medal in a time of 1:27.92. In the Boys 13-14 100 Meter Breaststroke, Daniel Lashley placed 7th and Gabriel Boos place 9th.

Brennan Watson won the Bronze medal in the Boys 11-12 100 Meter Breaststroke in a time of 1:20.16. Finishing in 7th position was Cassius Narain, and in 8th place was Axel Goodridge.

Fayth Jeffrey was pure fire in the Girls 11-12 100 Meter Breaststroke. She took home Gold in a time of 1:18.74. Jaiya Simmons was 3rd in 1:22.27 and Toria Alleyne placed 4th with 1:26.05. In 6th place was Khalia Springer with 1:28.84, coming in 7th was Kaitlin Balgobin with 1:30.14, and Amara Kirton placed 8th with 1:31.12.
