Mark Brantley lauds Charlestown Primary School for winning first-ever Relay Championships

Nevis: As Charlestown Primary School won the first ever Relay Championships in St Kitts, wishes have been poured on them from across the federation. Premier of Nevis and Leader of Concerned Citizens Movement Mark Brantley also paid a visit to the Charlestown Primary School to hail the students and school authorities for their incredible performance.   

Along with Premier Mark Brantley, Spencer Brand and Troy Liburd, an educational minister of Nevis, also showed their presence in the school on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. 

Expressing pleasure after visiting the schools, Mark Brantley noted, “Such an honour this morning to visit the Charlestown Primary School with the Hon Spencer Brand and the Hon Troy Liburd to congratulate the students, their Head Teacher, their teachers, their coaches and their parents and guardians for making ALL of Nevis proud by winning the first-ever Relay Championships on St Kitts.”

He said that these students have truly delivered for their school and for all of the people who are privileged to call Nevis home.

Premier Mark Brantley also reaffirmed that they are working tirelessly to uplift the sports sector and give birth to incredible athletes. 

“As a government, we commit to continue our investment in Athletics and other sporting disciplines to ensure that our people have every opportunity to pursue their sporting passion to the highest level,” he added. 

He further congratulated the Charlestown Primary School again whilst also congratulating the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School (with only eight athletes, they placed 4th), the St Thomas Primary School and the Ivor Walters Primary School, ALL of which placed in the top 10 in St Kitts. 

Further, Premier Mark Brantley also outlined a profile of one of the athletes who participated in a Relay race and stated: 

So this youngster Kymarni Newton, pictured here with his loving mom, is truly special. During one of the relay races in the first ever National Primary School Relay Championships in St Kitts, the baton was dropped. He did not throw his hands in the air or give up. NO. He went picked up the baton and continued his race and was eventually able to win the race for his team and his school, the Charlestown Primary School.

The grit and determination shown by young Kymarni are exactly what we need more of in our Nevis. At his age, he has shown us that we do not give up in the face of adversity or difficulty, but we fight on, and ultimately, we shall succeed.

Spencer Brand also expressed pleasure after joining Premier Mark Brantley and Minister of Education Troy Liburd at the Charlestown Primary to bring a congratulatory greeting on their emphatic victory at the SKN relay championship held on Sunday, May 15.

He said, “CPS won the Inter Primary on Nevis for 2022, now Champions of SKN for 2022! Let me take this opportunity to congratulate the Principal, Staff, Students, Parents and Coaches for doing what they do best! Be Champions! CONGRATULATIONS, CPS….you’re simply the best.”

He further extended greetings to all the other participating schools, especially those from Nevis; you did us proud and kept on keeping on!
