Kone Kon La to return back to Dominica, features fishing communities of Soufriere/Scotts Head

Roseau, Dominica: As the summer season is going on, the Nature Island of the Caribbean is all to welcome Kone Kon La to its shores this weekend. The Kone Kon La will be featured in the fishing communities of Soufriere/Scotts Heads.

It is also the celebration of the Feast of St Peter as well as reviving the vibrant heritage in coastal villages. The event will also be a platform to showcase the culture and beauty of the coastal villages. 

The discover Dominica through social media noted, “Hear the conch shell! Kone Kon La is coming back to The Nature Island this weekend! Featuring the fishing communities of Soufriere/Scotts Head, Kone Kon La will be a celebration of the Feast of St. Peter as well as reviving our heritage in coastal villages.” 

Translating to ‘sound the conch shell’, this weekend’s festival will be packed with everything sea, from seafood sampling, watersports activities, arts and crafts from community vendors, agriculture of the local area and educational sections on the Soufriere/Scotts Head Marine Reserve. 

The Kone Kon La will be held on Sunday 3rd July from 3 pm till for Kone Kon La to celebrate the rich heritage as well as popular entertainment from acts such as Reo, Trilla G, Extasy, and Asa Banton, DJ Sleem and more. 

It stated, “Let’s support our local community tourism and revive our culture and heritage.”

Earlier in May, Wes Moses, the owner of Soufriere Outdoor Center and Melanie Grant, an award-winning filmmaker from Barbados, kayaked the length of Dominica! Beginning at the Guadeloupe channel in the north to the Martinique Channel off the coast of Scott’s Head in the south, they began to mark the first ever sea kayaking trail in the Caribbean.

This inaugural expedition will develop into the Waitukubuli Sea Trail, offering adventurers chances to observe various marine life and coastal geography.

The Sea Trails hopes to encourage those involved to be better stewards of the waters surrounding #Dominica and push for more sea and ocean #conservation.
