KNOW HERE: St Kitts and Nevis announces calendar of events for OECS 42nd anniversay

St Kitts and Nevis: The 42nd Anniversary of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is celebrated in Saint Kitts and Nevis from June 13-19, 2023. The celebration will be held under the theme- “Vision. Integration. Sustainability.” 

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew shared the calendar of events for the celebration of the 42nd anniversary of OECS. The celebration will feature a number of activities such as a Panel Discussion, OECS in the Classroom- School Tour and Flag Raising Ceremony. The opening ceremony of the 73rd meetings of the OECS will be held on June 18, 2023. During the ceremony, PM Drew will be announced as the new Chairman of the OECS.

• From June 13 to June 16, 2023: OECS in the Classroom- School Tour at St Kitts and Nevis
• On June 14, 2023: Launch of OECS Day Poll via U- Report. The event was attended by all members states. 
• On June 16, 2023: OECS Colours Day for all member states
• On June 17, 2023: OECS Fun Walk at St Kitts and Nevis
• On June 18, 2023: Opening ceremony for the 73rd meeting of the OECS authority at St Kitts and Nevis. 
• From June 18 to June 19, 2023: 73rd meeting of the OECS Authority at St Kitts and Nevis
• On June 25, 2023: Thanksgiving Service at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Babonneau Saint Lucia. 

The first event of the celebration is OECS in the Classroom- School Tour at St Kitts and Nevis.

Further, the events will also feature a panel discussion on the OECS integration movement under the theme- “Our History, Our Achievements, Our Future. The event will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 8: 30 pm to 10: 00 pm at ZIZ Broadcasting Corporation Studios. 

The discussion will be held between the panellists- Dr Didacus Jules( Director General of the OECS), Larry Vaughan (St Kitts and Nevis Commissioner to the OECS), Frances Ann Satney (OECS Integrationist) and Kara Daly- Ferdinand (Youth Parliamentarian). The discussion will be hosted by Vadeesha John- Brookes, who is a lawyer and regional integrationist. 

The event, named Colours Day, will be held on June 16, 2023. Participants will have to upload a photo of their OECS colours on social media using the hashtag #OECSDAY.  Along with that, the Fun Walk will be held on June 17, 2023. The start time of the walk is 6 am. The route will be started from Bckley’s (Caribbean Cinemas) to Frigate Bay.
