Roseau, Dominica: The government of Dominica announced ten safety tips for Hurricane Preparedness and the season has knocked the doors of the Caribbean. The government has asked the public to adopt all these measures and ensure the safety from the Hurricane.

The government of Dominica said, ”The Hurricane Season is upon us, be prepared.”

When a major storm is coming, stay informed. The citizens are asked to sure to tune in to GIS on Channel 107 on FLOW TV, Channel 7 on DIGIPLAY or DBS Radio for updates. In addition, abide by all orders to evacuate from the authorities. Follow these 10 hurricane preparation tips to keep your home and loved ones safe before disaster strikes.

  1. MAKE A PLAN

If evacuation is necessary, turn off all utilities and follow community disaster preparedness plans. Select a common meeting place or single point-of-contact for all family members. If you have pets, prepare a plan for their evacuation as well.

  1. SECURE THE EXTERIOR

Trim large trees and secure all outside furniture, and equipment indoors. If necessary, secure outdoor sculptures with burlap or blankets tied with rope.

  1. INSTALL STORM SHUTTERS

Protect windows, doors and skylights with appropriate shutters or impact-resistant glass. Boarding window frames guarantee wider protection.

  1. CHECK WALL HANGINGS AND ART

Ensure all wall hangings hung on outside walls are taken inside, and elevated off the floor.

  1. SECURE YOUR VEHICLES

Gather flashlights, a portable radio, extra batteries, non-perishable food, bottled water, cash, blankets, clothing and toiletries.

This area should be in the central part of the house with no windows. Avoid all unprotected windows and doors until the storm passes.
