On one of the quietest Caribbean island Nevis, he was born on the 7th of March, 1999 to Sherlene Smithen and Dwight Browne. On that day his life blossomed without him knowing.
Dillon Smithen is no stranger to anyone as he is known as the baby or the child of the Alexandra Hospital. One can say that he volunteers his time to help with an event or just assisting a neighbour.
Smithen echoed that volunteering should be something that should be done from the heart without expecting anything in return. For him, he said that he always aspired to become a doctor because he was brought up in the medical field but decided on different professions as his life progressed.
His educational journey took flight at the Vern-N-Lew Preschool where he recalled going to school in the ambulance and back to his home at the hospital. He then moved on to the Jocelyn Liburd Primary School formerly known as the Gingerland Primary School where he was introduced to the drama club, steelpan and also the cooking club with hopes of becoming a world class chef to share his cuisine with the world.
Upon graduating he then transitioned on to the Gingerland Secondary School, where he was reintroduced to Home Economics and also became interested in Clothing and Textiles and Sciences.
Worthy to note Dillon is a past 25 Most Remarkable Teen recipient where he was awarded in the category of Personal Decision to Change formerly known as Courage to Overcome. He has dedicated his time into what he loves and has been awarded for his contributions. Smithen has been selected as a Green Ambassador where he leads the fight against saving Mother Earth. Smithen is no stranger to pageants or competitions as he has been around both local and national shows. He entered the St. Thomas’s Mr. Physique Pageant where he captured the title of Best Nevisian Pride in 2019, dubbed National Fusion.
One thing Smithen can say is that Reading was instilled in him from an early age and would be found in the local library reading a novel or a friction in his leisure time. When he is not reading he likes to help out in various events such as Beach Clean-ups, always volunteering or listening to music which helps him focus on whatever he is doing.
Smithen is currently employed at the Ministry of Agriculture where he has decided to become a Field Extension Officer and has decided to go back to school to further his education and his knowledge in this field. He hopes that he can contribute to the island of Nevis with his knowledge and experiences.
Smithen is a part of many NGOs where he plays an active role in each. Believe it or not, these organizations help him to stay active, be involved and help balance his life as a leader, assisting him to build his character and to create a positive change. Smithen continues to push himself despite the many ups, downs and challenges he is faced with as a young man entering adulthood.
