After the announcement of snap general elections, Dominica Labour Party announced the names of the candidates who will contest the election from the 21 different constituencies.

Roseau, Dominica: After the announcement of snap general elections, Dominica Labour Party announced the names of the candidates who will contest the election from the 21 different constituencies. 

Out of the 21 candidates, the DLP has launched ten fresh faces who will contest the elections for the first time. The new faces will fight from the constituencies such as Cottage, Paix Bouche, Petit Savanne, Roseau North, La Plaine, Salisbury, Colihaut, Portsmouth, St Joseph, and Mahaut constituencies. 

Following are the names of the candidates for these constituencies: 

  • Roland Royer- Cottage Constituency
  • Lakeyia Joseph – Paix Bouche Constituency
  • Julian Defoe- Petite Savanne Constituency
  • Miriam Blanchard- Roseau North Constituency
  • Dr. Cassandra Williams- La Plaine Constituency
  • Lydia Frank- Salisbury Constituency
  • Daren Pinard- Colihaut Constituency
  • Fenella Wenham- Portsmouth Constituency
  • Daren Lloyd- St Joseph Constituency
  • Cassanni Laville- Mahaut Constituency

During the launch of these fresh candidates by DLP, PM Roosevelt Skerrit asserted that new candidates were selected after a meeting with outgoing members and senior advisors and termed them “perfect team for these times”. 

The new faces will replace the following candidates who contested the elections in 2019. 

  • Kent Edwards- La Plaine Constituency
  • Nichols ‘Shanks’ Esprit- Salisbury Constituency
  • Catherine Daniel- Colihaut Constituency
  • Dr. Kenneth Darroux- Petite Savanne Constituency
  • Roselyn Paul- Paix Bouche Constituency
  • Rayburn Blackmoore- Mahaut Constituency
  • Ian Douglas- Portsmouth Constituency
  • Reginald Austrie- Cottage Constituency
  • Dr. Adis King- St Joseph Constituency
  • Joseph Isaac- Roseau North Constituency

Further, these new faces will join the former parliamentarians in the December 6 elections from the Dominica Labour Party. The former Parliamentarians who will contest the elections again under the Dominica Labour Party banner are as follows: 

  • Dr. Vince Henderson- Grandbay Constituency
  • Gregory Riviere- Marigot Constituency
  • Fidel Grant- Wesley Constituency
  • Cozier Frederick- Salybia Constituency
  • Denise Charles- Soufriere Constituency
  • Octavia Alfred- Castle Bruce
  • Dr. Irving McIntyre- Roseau Valley Constituency
  • Gretta Roberts- Morne Jaune/Riviere Cyrique Constituency
  • Melissa Poponne Skerrit- Roseau Central Constituency
  • Chekira Lockhart Hypolite- Roseau South Constituency
  • Fidel N Grant- Wesley Constituency

After the Commonwealth of Dominica witnessed the smooth processing of nomination day on November 18, 2022, PM Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, along with five DLP candidates, has been declared for the six constituencies due to their unopposed nomination. Out of the 21 seats, six seats were secured by the DLP party ahead of the elections. 

During the elections on December 6, 2022, they will not face any electorate as even a single opposition party has not filled their nomination from the following six constituencies.  

  • Paix Bouche
  • Vieille Case
  • Cottage
  • Colihaut
  • Petite Savanne
  • Roseau Valley.
