The event featured the teaching of the bee species and their assistance in sustaining the environment. Dominica- the Nature Isle of the Caribbean found several species of bees which are responsible for the sweet honey which is used in different purposes such as cakes, teas and even skincare.
Discover Dominica stated, “It’s World Bee Day. We’re highlighting the importance of these tiny creatures that make a BIG impact in Dominica.”
Bees, though small, are incredible pollinators for a variety of plants, and some bee species are responsible for the sweet honey that they love for cakes, teas, and even skincare. However, due to man-made changes in the environment, bees face threats to their habitats.
The authority has celebrated bees and how Bee Natural is making waves in the bee community. Owner, Terri Henry, is spreading awareness across the Caribbean about bees and creates local products such as lip balms and deodorants using beeswax.
World Bee Day marks a special opportunity to celebrate hard-working bees for the key role they play in sustaining life on our planet. Human Beings depend on bees and other pollinators for food security, biodiversity and ecosystem health, but sadly pollinator populations are under threat from habitat destruction, pests and diseases and more.
Bees are those little animals we frequently take for granted but are essential to our lives and ecosystem. Bees, among the hardest-working animals on earth, have helped people, plants, and the environment for ages. Bees and other pollinators enable the creation of an abundance of fruits, nuts, and seeds in addition to greater variety and higher quality, which helps to ensure food security and nutrient intake. This is done by transporting pollen from one flower to another.
The United Nations declared May 20 as World Bee Day to increase public awareness of the value of pollinators, the dangers they confront, and their role in sustainable development and the environment. World Bee Day 2023, with the theme “Bee engaged in pollinator-friendly agricultural production,” highlights the significance of protecting bees and other pollinators, mainly through scientifically supported agricultural production methods.
