Jammu and Kashmir, India: Kashmir hosted a Senior Citizens Sports Competition at DIET Beerwah. The event was organized in collaboration between the district administration Budgam and Youth Services and Sports.

The sports event featured several exciting sporting events such as Kabaddi, Tug of War, Chess, Carron, Skipping Rope, and Hopscotch. Hundreds of senior citizens both men and women participated in the event with full enthusiasm and energy. Their huge participation has evidently proven that age is truly just a number.

The event also featured cultural programmes such as skits in which several renowned artists participated. While raising awareness, these artists outlined the impacts of drugs and other social evils. They also highlighted the importance of sports for a healthy and happy life. Their performances also lauded the elder people who participated in the sports and stated everyone should respect their elders. They also asked them to curb the drug menace with proper guidance in their wards.

Further, Deputy Commissioner Budgam, SF Hamid also outlined the significance of sports in all age groups and stated that sports should be everyone’s best friends as they keep the body fit and fine. He also extended his full support to the community and stated that the program dubbed Khelo-India will ensure the strengthening of the sports sector in society. Today’s event spread the message that age is not necessary to fulfill goals of the life.

He asserted that sports assist society to maintain the lifestyle and make themselves away from drugs. He further appreciated the overwhelming participation of the senior citizens in these events and stated that this showcased that the society of Budgam is committed to paving the path of development and prosperity.

He said that the senior citizens sports competition is a big step towards recognizing and appreciating the contribution of seniors to society and shows that age will never stop anyone to achieve their goals in life.
