Jamaica: Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Jamaica, expressed pleasure in joining the Commonwealth Youth Forum and observing their Council’s General Assembly. 

In the Youth Forum, Kamina Johnson Smith has a great interaction with the delegates from Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Ghana, Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Barbados and Trinidad. 

Through her social media, Kamina Johnson Smith noted, “I was thrilled to visit the #Commonwealth Youth Forum today and observe their Council’s, General Assembly. Great interaction with the delegates, including those from #Kenya #Nigeria #Uganda #Tanzania #Mozambique #Ghana #Bangladesh #India #Malaysia #Barbados and #Trinidad.” 

She further stated that it was wonderful to be greeted by Jamaica’s own Tijani Christian, outgoing Chair of the CW Youth Council and Toshanna Wignall, who is flying the flag high.

The Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF 2022) is being held in parallel with the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The CHOGM is held in Kigali, Rwanda, between 19-21 June 2022 with the theme of ‘Taking Charge of our Future’.

The Commonwealth Youth Forum during CHOGM offers an opportunity for young people of the Commonwealth to build cross-cultural connections and networks and deliberate on youth-led initiatives addressing what would emerge as issues impacting young people, strategise on perspectives to influence decision makers and ensure young people have a voice and agency in its future.

Earlier, on Monday, June 20, 2022, Kamina Johnson Smith visited Kigali, Rwanda, for CHOGM and expressed her huge pleasure. She stated that she is thrilled to be in Kigali, Rwanda, for the 26th Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Nations (#CHOGM).

 The theme this year is theme is “Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming”. This week, #Commonwealth heads will discuss climate change, food security, impact on our oceans and sustainable energy. 

The CHOGM will decide the fete of Kamina Johnson Smith and the other two candidates and determine who will assume the office of Commonwealth Secretary General
