Rwanda: Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, met with Alan Ganoo, Foreign Minister of Mauritius, ahead of the opening of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2022, scheduled in Kigali, Rwanda from June 20, 2022, to June 25, 2022.
Kamina Johnson Smith expressed pleasure in conducting a meeting with Foreign Minister and noted, “It was a pleasure to meet with Alan Ganoo, Foreign Minister of #Mauritius, ahead of the opening of #CHOGM2022 in #Kigali.”
Both the dignitaries discussed various multilateral partnerships and bilateral exchanges. She also shared her Candidature for the top position of the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
Kamina Smith asserted,” The time was spent for a great discussion on our multilateral partnership on common issues including #climate #oceans #trade as well as my Candidature for Commonwealth Secretary General.”
Kamina Smith has been in Kigali, Rwanda, for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, where her bid for the appointment of the Secretary-General will be decided.
The theme for this year’s CHOGM is “Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming.” It focuses on key priority areas which reflect the global challenges to which the Commonwealth must adequately respond. These are fairness, prosperity, security and sustainability.
In the CHOGM 2022, Kamina Smith has been engaged with different events and different diplomatic leaders where she discussed her Candidature for the top position and other key issues such as climate change, development, and sustainability.
Kamina Smith also participated in the Commonwealth Business Forum and Commonwealth Youth Forum, where she discussed oceans, climate change, empowerment of women & youth, democracy and governance.
Kamina Smith also conducted an interactive engagement with Nanaia Mahuta MP – Hauraki-Waikato, who is a Foreign Minister of New Zealand.

Further, in the Commonwealth Youth Forum, Kamina Smith had great interaction with delegates from the countries such as Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, #Mozambique #Ghana #Bangladesh #India #Malaysia #Barbados and #Trinidad.
Kamina Smith is Jamaica’s candidate for the position of the Commonwealth Secretary General and visited various countries to promote herself. She also shared Jamaica’s various multilateral cooperation on crucial issues.
In the CHOGM 2022, various countries such as the Caribbean region, India, United Kingdom have reached and are all set to show their decisions for the bid of the Commonwealth Secretary General.
Moreover, along with Prime Minister of UK- Boris Johnson, Duchess of Cornwall have also joined CHOGM 2022.
