Kamina Smith lands in Ghana, conducts meetings with political leaders

Through her social media post, she expressed pleasure after conducting a meeting with the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sartong. The meeting was held after Kamina Smith landed in the capital of Ghana- Accra.

Jamaica: Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, shared a series of meetings that happened during her last days on the official tour to African countries and outlined her meetings in Ghana

Kamina, who is an elected candidate for the position of the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, has promoted herself in numerous African countries and asked for a change in the Commonwealth. She landed back in Jamaica on Sunday, May 15, 2022, and now sharing glimpses of her last days in Ghana, where she spent and conducted a meeting with different political leaders. 

Through her social media post, she expressed pleasure after conducting a meeting with the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sartong. The meeting was held after Kamina Smith landed in the capital of Ghana- Accra

Minister of Foreign Affairs noted, “It was a pleasure to meet with Dep Min for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of #Ghana, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sartong upon landing in #Accra.”

She also highlighted that their discussion was majorly focused on the strengthening of Ghana- Jamaica relations. The meeting also featured several aspects of cooperation in multilateral fora between two countries. 

Smith stated, “We had good discussions on the strength of Ghana-Jamaica relations as well our cooperation in multilateral fora.”

Both dignitaries have also discussed Kamina Smith’s candidacy for Secretary-General for Commonwealth, and she also shared her impressive profile with him. 

“We discussed my candidacy for #Commonwealth SG, and I was happy to share my profile and statements prior to my planned meeting with President Akufo-Addo scheduled for later that day,” Kamina wrote. 

Kamina further informed about her scheduled meeting with the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, that was held later that day. 

The meeting with the President of Ghana was her last meeting in the African countries. 

She expressed, “It was most befitting that my final meeting in Africa would be with President Nana Akufo-Addo, after having been bestowed with my new Ghanian name.”

Kamina Smith also stated that she extended greetings to the President and added, “I conveyed warm greetings on behalf of PM Holness Andrew Holness, and we recalled the excellent visit the President paid to Jamaica in 2019. After discussing our strong cultural ties and potential for greater technical cooperation, we also discussed my #Commonwealth Candidature and my vision for the institution.” 

She also expressed pleasure in joining Esmond Reid, High Commissioner for Jamaica to Ghana and Isaac Osei-Bonsu, Consul of Jamaica to Ghana.

Kamina writes, “I was happy to be joined again by Esmond Reid, High Commissioner for Jamaica to Ghana and Isaac Osei-Bonsu, Honorary Consul of Jamaica to Ghana.”
