Kamina Johnson Smith visits African countries, shares her vision of re-energizing Commonwealth

Minister Jonson Smith departed Jamaica on Friday, May 6 and used the working visit to several capital cities in Africa to share her vision of re-imagining and re-energizing the Commonwealth.

Jamaica: Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, shared some glimpses and her multiple visits to the different countries, especially in Africa. She is on her official visit to meet various delegations and diplomats of the countries to strengthen the bilateral ties. 

Firstly, Smith engaged with different diplomats during her first stop in the countries in Africa. She took to Twitter and noted, “Very much looking forward to my engagements with brother and sister countries in #Africa this week as we discuss bilateral matters as well as the potential of our #Commonwealth #KJ Sfor CSG.”

Minister Jonson Smith departed Jamaica on Friday, May 6 and used the working visit to several capital cities in Africa to share her vision of re-imagining and re-energizing the Commonwealth. 

She is also on a current visit to the countries to promote herself as a candidate if Commonwealth Secretary-General (SG). 

Minister Jonshon Smith formally launched Jamaica’s candidature for Secretary-General of the Commonwealth in London on Thursday, April 21 2022. 

Meanwhile, Minister Smith also stopped her visit and met Munir Akram, who is a permanent representative of Pakistan and reflected on her global perspectives. 

She wrote, “In NY, it was a pleasure to meet with H.E. Munir Akram, pakistanprtoun whose significant experience in NY and Geneva is reflected in his global perspectives. I enjoyed our exchange of views, including on my candidature for the role of #Commonwealth #SG #KJS for CSG.”

Further, she also conducted a meeting with the Ambassador of Guyana to the United Nations. 

“It was a pleasure to meet with H.E. Carolyn Rodriques-Birkett, Amb of Guyana to the #UN to underscore the importance of bilateral, regional & multilateral cooperation b/n and. Our discussions on the #Commonwealth and my bid for #SG were also greatly appreciated. KJS for CSG,” Smith tweeted. 

Minister Kamina Smith continues her campaign in a bid to become SG of the Commonwealth; she is currently in Africa, where she’ll be engaging with Heads of State and Foreign Minister of Commonwealth countries.
