Jamaica: Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, shared a glimpse of her various bilateral meetings and engagements on the first day of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2022. 

Firstly, Kamina Johnson Smith expressed pleasure to meet with Nanaia Mahuta MP- Hauraki-Waikato, Foreign Minister of New Zealand and stated that it was a great opportunity to discuss various bilateral engagements as well as cooperation in multilateral fora. 

Through her social media, she noted, “So pleased to meet with Nanaia Mahuta MP – Hauraki-Waikato, Foreign Minister of New Zealand! It was a great opportunity to discuss our countries’ bilateral engagement as well as cooperation in multilateral fora.”  

Kamina Smith stated that oceans, climate change, empowerment of women & youth, democracy and governance are all shared interests related to my candidacy for #Commonwealth Secretary-General, which they also discussed.

Nanaia Mahuta also took to Twitter and tweeted, “Great to meet with Kamina Johnson Smith at CHOGM 2022 to discuss common aspirations amongst the Commonwealth family and the importance of small island states, development and climate finance, gender and youth empowerment, and good governance.”

Kamina Smith also walked into the Commonwealth Business Forum CHOGM2022 and exclaimed,” You hear “gwaan wid it..gwaan wid it, yow easy! Toast” your beats in your chest.”

She extended greetings to Clare Akamanzi, the RDB and the CWIC for an excellent start to the #Commonwealth Business Forum. Critical discussions on Investment for unlocking the Commonwealth’s potential for youth in Trade, Green Energy and Data. Important work to be done, great signals sent.

Kamina Smith expressed pleasure in visiting the Commonwealth Youth Forum today and observing their Council’s General Assembly. Great interaction with the delegates, including those from #Kenya #Nigeria #Uganda #Tanzania #Mozambique #Ghana #Bangladesh #India #Malaysia #Barbados and #Trinidad.

She exclaimed that it was wonderful to be greeted by Jamaica’s own Tijani Christian, outgoing Chair of the CW Youth Council and Toshanna Wignall, who is flying the flag high.

 CHOGM 2022 is ongoing in Kigali, Rwanda, as it started on June 20, 2022, and will be lasted on June 25, 2022. 

The theme this year is theme is “Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming”. This week, #Commonwealth heads will discuss climate change, food security, impact on our oceans and sustainable energy.
