Jamaica: Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, who is currently on an official tour to African countries, has conducted a meeting with the President of the Republic of Botswana Masisi on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. 

During her visit, she also met with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Botswana, Dr Lemogang Kwape. The meeting was held at the Cape Town Conference Centre. 

While expressing pleasure, she noted, “It was an honour to meet with President of the Republic of Botswana H.E. Masisi and his Foreign Minister H.E. Dr Lemogang Kwape at the Cape Town Conference Center.”

Smith emphasized that Bostwana and Jamaica shared cordial relations and shared various matters of concern mostly in the multilateral arena. 

“We agreed that Botswana and Jamaica have fraternal and friendly relations with a shared outlook on many issues and cooperation, mostly in the multilateral arena,” underlined Kamina Smith. 

She further shared her vision for the Commonwealth and her bid for the role of SG. 

Outlining the significant decision taken on a range of issues, Smith asserted that it includes development finance, environmental protection, resilience and lessons learnt by small countries such as ours, from the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

She said, “In that context, I shared my vision for the Commonwealth and my bid for the role of #SG. We had a robust discussion on a range of issues including development finance, environmental protection, resilience and lessons learnt by small countries such as ours, from the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.”

In the meeting, she asserted that she had presented the President and the Foreign Minister with copies of my profile and candidature statement for reference and further engagement. 

Besides this, she also conducted a meeting with Minister Lemogang Kwape. 

Outlining the significance of the diplomatic ties and talks, Smith stated, “Formal meetings are important, but relaxed engagement is also important for diplomacy. After a productive formal meeting, it was good to speak with Minister Lemogang Kwape on matters including my meetings across #Africa on my bid for the role of #Commonwealth #SG #KJSforCSG.”
