Kamina Johnson Smith meets President Irfaan Ali, discusses her candidature for CSG

Caribbean: Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, engaged with President Irfaan Ali in the Agri-Investment Forum and Expo hosted by Guyana. Various matters such as her candidature and her reformed vision for Secretary General of the Commonwealth were part of their discussion. 

She also expressed pleasure to get an opportunity of incredible interaction with President Irfaan Ali. Kamina Johnson Smith was accompanied by MFA and IC Hugh Hilton Todd and Pearnel Charles Jr and called the Agri-Investment Form successful. 

Kamina Smith took to Twitter and wrote, “So pleased to have had the opportunity to engage with President Irfaan Ali along with my brother, MFA&IC H.E. Hugh Hilton Todd and Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr on the margins of the successful CARICOM Agri-Investment Forum and Expo.”

She outlined that she expressed her reformed vision for the position of the Secretary-General of the commonwealth and her preparation for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM2022). 

In addition to that, they have also discussed various matters of concern, such as regional cooperation in agriculture. She also presented her agenda and concept for being in the top position, which includes empowering young women, reducing imports, and logistics. 

She noted, “We had an excellent discussion about my CSG Candidature and preparations for CHOGM 2022. We also discussed regional cooperation in agriculture – empowering young people and women; reducing imports; and logistics.”

Guyana hosted the Agri-Investment Forum and Expo, which was attended by the CARICOM heads of government and outlined planning and strategies for the food security and agricultural field.  

At the conference, she also encouraged young people involved in the field of agriculture during her tour of the Shade House project with President Irfaan Ali and other CARICOM Heads of government

She expressed pleasure in speaking with the young people about their role in food security and nation building. Kamina also outlined the 60% love for the young female patricipamts.
