Jamaica:Ā Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, outlined various aspects of the official first-ever visit of the President of the Republic of India, Ram Nath Kovind, to Jamaica. She signed a Memorandum of Understanding with President Kovind.Ā 

She also expressed pleasure in offering a warm welcome to President Ram Nath Kovind and his wife, Savita Kovind, who also accompanied President for a State visit.Ā 

President Ram Nath Kovind also inaugurated ‘Dr BR Ambedkar Avenue’ in Jamaica.Ā 

Kamina Smith stated, “A warm welcome to His Excellency, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, President of #India and Her Excellency Savita Kovind, First Lady, who are in #Jamaica for a State Visit.”

Further, she outlined in the first meeting with the President of India that the government of Jamaica have signed a memorandum of Understanding with India, which would facilitate both the countries to strengthen both the countries further.Ā 

Kamina also highlighted that the signing ceremony would help both the countries to develop Jamaica’s Foreign Service Institute.Ā 

She noted, “Today, I joined the Prime Minister for a courtesy call with H.E. at Jamaica House, after which representatives of both Foreign Ministries signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will support the development of Jamaica’s Foreign Service Institute.”

During his visit to Jamaica, President Ram Nath Kovind also addressed a joint sitting of the Houses of Parliament and added, “His Excellency the Honourable Ram Nath Kovind, President of the Republic of India, addresses a joint sitting of the Houses of Parliament.”

Further, Prime Minister Andrew Holness also outlined that President of India Ram Nath Kovond signed the visitor’s book after he completed his address in the Pralimane sitting of Jamaica.Ā 

Prime Minister Andrew Holness stated, “His Excellency the Honourable Ram Nath Kovind, President of the Republic of India, signs the Visitor’s book on completion of his address today at the joint sitting of the Houses of Parliament.”

President Ram Nath Kovind will also pay an official visit to St Vincent and the Grenadines from May 18 to 21, 2022, where he will meet with his counterpart, Governor-General Susan Dougan.

President Ram Nath Kovind is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves and other dignitaries.Ā
