Jamaica: Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Jamaica’s candidate for the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, joined other Ministers of Trade/Industry of the Organization of Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific States Secretariat.

She interacted with the OACPS Secretariat Group within the World Trade Organization and outlined her and Jamaica’s vision on various matters of concern. 

OACPS is the world’s largest association of developing countries with a permanent Secretariat based in Brussels, working in partnership with the EU.

Kamina Johnson Smith presented Jamaica in the meeting, which was conducted virtually on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Minister Kampard Ali Djadda of Tchad. 

She further expressed pleasure in interacting with the Ministers of Trade and Industry and stated that she outlined her colleagues on the preparation of Jamaica for MC12. Kamina Johnson Smith also confirmed the position of OACPS and also talked about the upliftment of the group and various sectors in the field of Trade. 

Through her social media, she stated that Jamaica is honoured to coordinate with OACPS Group. Kamina Johnson Smith noted, “Jamaica is honoured to coordinate the OACPS Secretariat Group within the #WTO. Yesterday Ministers of Trade/Industry met virtually in Council under the able Chairmanship of Minster Kampard Ali Djadda of #Tchad.”

Kamina Smith added that she was pleased to update colleagues on our preparation for #MC12 and confirm #OACPS positions.

Kamina Johnson Smith is a candidate for the position of the Commonwealth Secretary-General and promoting herself with her incredible leadership on various matters. 

She visited various countries such as African countries and the Caribbean, interacted with the different leaders across the globe, and shared her re-energizing vision and remerging agenda for the top position. 

Various countries such as the United Kingdom, India and Trinidad and Tobago, Belize backed Kamina Smith’s candidature and campaign for the position of the Secretary General of the Commonwealth.
