Johnson & Johnson vaccine’s 115,200 doses arrives in Jamaica

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica informed that the island had received the first shipment of 115,200 doses of the one-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine on Monday. The Ministry, in a tweet, noted that the Jamaican government purchases these vaccines via the African Medical Supplies Platform (AMSP).

Jamaica: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica informed that the island had received the first shipment of 115,200 doses of the one-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine on Monday. The Ministry, in a tweet, noted that the Jamaican government purchases these vaccines via the African Medical Supplies Platform (AMSP).

This first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccines is transported to the island by UNICEF. The Ministry tweet states, “It is the first of two shipments of the single-dose vaccine expected from the AMSP this month and totalling more than 200,000 doses.”

“We express appreciation to Mr Strive Masiywa, chair of the AVAT/AMSP and his team, who delivered on the vision of President Cyril Ramaphosa in establishing this new COVID-19 response mechanism; for the African Continent and including access for Caricom nations.”

In past weeks, there has been a constant spike in the COVID-19 numbers of the island, to which the Jamaican government has imposed a lockdown and curfew on no movement days. Related to this, new COVID-19 guidelines have also been imposed by the administration.

The island has also discovered infections of the contagious Delta variant of coronavirus, which has significantly has risen the virus toll numbers.

According to a press release issued by Jamaica’s Ministry of National Security, ENDS – E-commerce National Delivery System has resumed its services until midnight during curfew hours and on no-movement days.

As per the COVID-19 statistics, so far, there are a total of 62,712 confirmed infections of the deadliest COVID-19 mutant, while around 1,402 people scummed to the virus.

The Ministry’s press release statement cite, “The most recent upgrades to the online ENDS registration platform – www.ends.gov.jm- have improved vendors’ registration and the tracking processes.”

Amid the current situation of the pandemic in the island country, Prime Minister – Andrew Holness is encouraging the citizens to take their jabs at the COVID-19 vaccine in order to defeat the deadly virus.
