Jamaica’s Health Ministry to host Blitz on 5 June for second COVID dose

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has announced that it is going to hold a special Blitz at the National Arena on Saturday, June 5, 2021, for the people to receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Jamaica: The Ministry of Health and Wellness of Jamaica has announced that it is going to hold a special Blitz at the National Arena on Saturday, June 5, 2021, for the people to receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The timings of the Blitz are from 10 am to 4 pm. In this Blitz, the health ministry stated that the second dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine would be provided to more than 600 people of Jamaica who have already received their first jab of the coronavirus vaccine.

The Ministry added that it would communicate with the people who are yet to receive their second dose of the coronavirus vaccine via text messages and follow-up calls.

“The people who fall under this special category would have to take a government-issued identification or a letter from Justice of the peace and vaccination card that was issued to each individual who has received their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine.”

The health ministry further informed that the people who are and above the age group of sixty-five years are permitted to be accompanied by one caregiver at the vaccination site.

Following the statement, the ministry added that “We remind the people of Jamaica that they are not fully vaccinated until they receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and as such, are still required to follow the infection control and prevention protocols outlined by the ministry which also includes wearing a mask, sanitizing, social distance and handwash and the measures that are outlined in the Disaster Risk Management Act.”

The ministry also informed that appointments for the first doses are still available for the people of the priority group. Currently, Jamaicans who are 50 years and older, the healthcare workers, JCF, JDF, Jamaica fire brigade, and the staff numbers of PICA, Jamaica’s custom agency, and the department of correctional services are eligible to be vaccinated.
