Jamaican Sabrina Lyn secures top spot in 100-metre butterfly in Tyr Pro swim series
Jamaica: The 2022 RJR/Gleaner Female Aquatics athlete of the Year Sabrina Lyn was the top Jamaican Performer at the recently concluded TYR Pro Swim Series meet in Fort Lauderdale. Lyn, competing for the Bolles Sharks bettered the PAN AM A standard in the 100 metre butterfly and made her association’s minimum qualifying standards for the World Championships.
In the morning heats Lyn recorded a season best time of 1:02.78 (split time 28.94). That is the fastest time for Sabrina since she closed out her CARIFTA career winning the 15-17 Gold in a then PB of 1:02.14. That performance was also a Championship record. That time also earned a second swim in the C final at the high quality meet.
In the final she proved that fortune favours the brave. She went out aggressively in 28.12. That split bettered her season best in the 50 metre butterfly that she recorded earlier in the meet of 28.55. It also bettered her old PB of 28.45 that she achieved in Silver medal performance at the 2022 CCCAN Championships in Barbados. She pushed on to touch fourth in a new PB and PAN AM A time of 1:01.46. The PAN AM A standard in the event is 1:01.62.
Her federation required a minimum qualifying standard for the 2023 World Championships of 1:02.18 which she also met. Lyn’s club Bolles was also responsible for the age group development of Bahamian Olympian and regional icon Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace.
The Bahamian would become the fastest English Speaking woman and second fastest woman ever from the CARIFTA region with her NR of 58.87.Only another regional great and Olympian countrywoman Alia Atkinson (59.94) who have swum faster than 1:02.00.
Lyn is heading to Louisiana State University home to the reigning Commonwealth, World Short Course World long course and Olympic Champion Canadian Maggie Mac Neil. Look for more fast times from Lyn in the event and the challenge to senior national record.
