Since the beginning of this year, Jamaica has reportedly recorded two consecutive weeks of over 30 plus murders, bringing the total tally of homicide killings to 72 as of January 15.
For the past year, in 2021, over 58 murders were recorded.
As per the latest statistics released from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), around 35 Jamaicans were murdered in the last week only.
This has resulted in bringing an overall increase of over 24 per cent year on year.
During the first week of 2022, the JCF has reportedly said that around 37 murders took place.
In addition, around 35 people have sustained injuries during the shooting since the beginning of the year.
Earlier in 2021, around 48 persons were shot and injured. At the same time, other serious crimes like rape and break-ins have reportedly decreased.
