Prime Minister Andrew Holness again urged the parents and the guardians of the children who are 12 years or older for taking them and get fully vaccinated against the highly contagious COVID-19 virus.
PM Holness highlighted that till now, only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine had been approved for children of age ranging from 12 to 18 years. He added that parents should take their children or allow them to take the vaccine and safeguard them in the fight against the virus.
On November 18, while talking to a journalist during his tour to the vaccination site at the Manning’s School in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, PM Holness gave these statements and appealed to the citizens that Jamaica now has three types of vaccines available on the island so, get vaccinated with any vaccine that will be available at the vaccination sites.
PM Holness said that all the vaccines are WO approved, so nobody should be doubtful while getting the vaccination shot. e added that the vaccines are effective and safe
PM Holness said, “Delay could mean danger, and I would encourage those who are waiting to stop the procrastination. We have been vaccinating on a wide-scale basis since August [and] we are closing out the year now. The world has been vaccinating. I think if you are waiting to see, then you would have already seen.”
Medical Officer of Health for Westmoreland, Dr Marcia Graham, stated that parents are allowing their children to take the Pfizer vaccine shot in Westmoreland. The parents in the area are becoming more responsive towards vaccination drives.
She said that more parents and children are turning up at vaccinations sites on weekends to participate in the national vaccination programme.
