Jamaica bags fourth position on medal table at World Athletics Championships with four medals

The Medal hunt continues as #Team Jamaica kicks off day six at the World Athletics Championships with four medals (1 gold, two silvers and one bronze).

Jamaica: With the spectacular performance by Jamaican athletics, the country has been placed in fourth place on the medal table at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in the United States. The small island country of the Caribbean has won four medals- one gold, silver and bronze. 

The silver medal was won by Shaneika Ricketts in the triple jump on Monday evening, while other medals were won Sunday night when Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah swept the podium places in the women’s 100m final.

While hailing the performance of the athletes of Jamaica, Prime Minister Andrew Holness noted, “As I watched the medal ceremony at this year’s World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, I believe I speak for all Jamaicans, whether at home or in the diaspora, when I say this moment means so much for all of us. Congratulations to our sprint queens, who consistently inspire us and fill us with pride.” 

Prime Minister Andrew Holness extended greetings to Shaneika Ricketts and asserted,” Congratulations to Shanieka Ricketts, who has won silver in the women’s triple jump final at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. ‬ Continue to aim for the stars. We are proud.”

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jamaica- Kamina Johnson Smith, expressed, “Huge congrats to Shanieka Ricketts for her fantastic silver in the #Triple Jump and to our other finalists #KimberlyWilliams and #Ackelia Smith, Oregon #World Champs2022 flying high.”

Candice McLeod and Stephanie-Ann McPherson will seek a podium finish in the final of the women’s 400 meters at the Oregon World Championships.

World Championship bronze medalist Rushell Clayton has done it again. 

She ran a personal best in the Women’s 400m Hurdles semi-final 2 (53.63s) and got a non-automatic qualifying spot to the final.

The other medals were won Sunday night when Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah swept the podium places in the women’s 100m final.
